Defining Holiness

The greatest need in the church of Christ today is to return to a true definition of "God's holiness". In 1 Peter 1:15, believers are called to be holy because their caller is holy. Leviticus 11:45 is helpful in understanding what is meant by the phrase "God is holy". In the context of forbidding the nation of Israel from eating any kind of animal, God calls, "for I am the LORD who brings you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God. You shall therefore be holy, for I am holy." In Leviticus 10:1-3, after Nadab and Abihu are slain God Moses gives an explaination for the incidence: "This is what the LORD has said: 'Among those who are near me I will be santified, and before all the people I will be glorified."
